Why is CAT exam so challenging and competitive?

When it comes to the toughest management exam in India, you’ll surely think about CAT. There are different management exams, but CAT is the most competitive examination. CAT 2019 examination will be conducted on 24th November 2019. According to the latest stats, this year more than 2 lakh aspirants will appear for this examination. For the upcoming batch, more than 4000 seats are available in business schools and IIMs. We always see a rise in the competition level of CAT examination. More than lakhs of students will compete for just thousands of seats. There are certain factors which make CAT different from other management entrance examinations.

  • Level of the CAT questions

CAT becomes tough because of challenging and tricky questions. We always say that we should prepare previous year question papers for CAT. But there are different sets of news questions every year in CAT examination. We actually cannot predict which questions can come this year.

You can only solve all the questions if your basics are clear. Apart from that, your accuracy level should be high. You have to practice-intensive in your cat preparation. CAT always comes with twisted questions; it’s your exam strategy how you solve them in a couple of minutes.

  • Time limit

This is another factor which makes CAT examination more competitive. Aspirants have to solve approximately 100 questions in less than 180 minutes (3 hours). Answering such challenging questions in less than 3 hours is quite difficult. If we calculate, then a student only has 1 hour to read all the questions and answer them correctly. Aspirants have a lot of mental and physical pressure on the examination day.

It is advised that apart from studies, students should be mentally and physically prepared for examination day. Hence, it’s not just attempting questions and grabbing a seat; you even have to handle pressure and work smartly in stressful conditions.

  • Pressure in preparation days

Apart from time limit and challenging questions, candidates try hard to grab a seat in IIMs and top business schools. They even work hard to fulfil their expectations. CAT examination is a critical phase which decides the future of their management career. Their performance is important to open the gates of IIMs. Therefore cracking CAT examination is not a cakewalk. Those who prepare thoroughly can excel in this examination.

They should have control over their mind to manage the time and answer all the questions efficiently. You should be well-prepared to deal with this crucial examination.

  • Prediction in the preparation days

You can never predict the questions in the upcoming CAT examination. Changes are always possible in this examination. You can even experience a difference in the difficulty level, type of questions, paper pattern etc. For example – Reading Comprehension (RC) may be tough and Quantitative Aptitude (QA) will feature easy questions. But you cannot expect the same scenario next year.

There are even chances that CAT 2020 will be easy compared to CAT 2019. Therefore CAT examination is genuinely unpredictable. Aspirants have to be well-prepared for any challenging situation on the examination day.

  • Sections of CAT examination

There are three sections in the CAT examination – Quantitative Aptitude (QA), Data Interpretation (DI) and Logical Reasoning (LR), Verbal and Reading Comprehension (RC). Aspirants have to practice several questions and have to enhance speed and accuracy. You have to learn a set of skills, to crack the CAT examination and study in IIM.

Your language and mathematical skills will play a significant role in the CAT examination. Therefore don’t worry, take your time and study well. You have to prepare your own strategy depending upon your capabilities.
